Detailed directions and travel information
Rapid Penang buses serve Georgetown extensively. Key routes like 101, 102, 103, 104, 110, 111, 112, 115, 201, 202, 203, 204, 206, 301, 302, 306, 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407, 408, 409, 502 pass through or near the main street food areas (e.g., Gurney Drive, Chulia Street, New Lane). Alight at stops near your target food area.
Depending on the bus stop, walking times vary. From major hubs like Komtar Bus Terminal, it's a 10-20 minute walk to areas like New Lane or Chulia Street.
From Penang Bridge, take Lebuhraya Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu (E29) towards Georgetown. Exit towards the city centre and follow signs for Georgetown. Navigate through the one-way street system. Drive time is approximately 20-30 minutes from the bridge, depending on traffic.
On-street parking is limited and metered (RM 1.00-RM 2.00 per hour). Public car parks are available at Komtar, Prangin Mall, Upper Penang Street, and various smaller lots. Availability can be challenging during peak hours.
From Penang International Airport: Approx. 45-60 minutes by taxi/ride-sharing. From Butterworth (Mainland): Approx. 20-30 minutes by ferry to Georgetown terminal, then local bus or taxi.
Visit during off-peak hours (late morning or mid-afternoon) to avoid the biggest crowds. Bring cash (RM) as most hawkers do not accept cards. Be adventurous and try a variety of dishes!
